Caro's Book of Poker Tells

Customer Review:

Psychology of the game personified
According to Mike Caro, everyone has tells, and that includes the pros and Mike himself. When watching Mike on television, he sometimes bets right away when it's his turn, but at other times, he talks about what he should do and often asks his opponent questions to extract information. See Chapter 8, The Sounds Of Tells.

Two of my favorite sections (in the chapter Tells >From Actors) are "Strong Means Weak" and "Weak Means Strong". Seven tells are described in the Strong Means Weak section, providing for very substantial coverage of this seemingly simple, but crucial concept. Many players tend to act the opposite of the strength of their hands - it might even be a natural phenomenon. It's important to detect this behavior to help you decide whether to fold, call, or raise. In the Weak Means Strong section (and in other parts of the book), I like the use of the MCU [Mike Caro University] Poker Charts. These charts take you through each round of the hand to discuss the action by all the players as it relates to tells. At first you may be overwhelmed by all of the different tells to be on the lookout for. Read one or two chapters, and then go to the poker tables and look for those tells you just read about. Then come back to those chapters in the book to confirm what you saw at the tables. Continue on in this manner until you've covered all of the tells.

Perhaps you're thinking that you're too busy focusing on each hand and your strategy to try to discern the various tells your opponents may be broadcasting. You should still get this book because it can help you from telegraphing your own tells to other players. Just because you're not looking for tells does not mean that your opponents are not seeking to identify tells from your behavior. Use this book to help prevent others from gleaning information about your hand.

I like to review parts of the book prior to going to the tables each time as a refresher and as a check that I'm not broadcasting any tells to my opponents. I also like to review poker strategy (I mostly play hold'em) before each poker outing. For me the "perfect" (and unbelievably compact) guide that I always use and very strongly recommend is the two-card set of Poker 6-7-8 Hold'Em Strategy Cards by Hal Marcus.

Caro's Book of Poker Tells
It was a decent book. Not really what I thought would be because it is often the same tells over and voer again but I mean they are decent tells. I would recommend it for the beginner getting into the game but not for an intermediate player looking to up their game.

Professional Tells
Great book on poker "tells" full of useful information. However, the charts are a little complecated for the novice player.

Customer Review:

Handy but dated
This was quite a deal at $1.50, and did come in handy on our recent trip to Costa Rica. However, it was very "urban" oriented (we were in the jungle), and somewhat dated! For instance, there was a page devoted to sending telegrams, but nothing about cell phone reception or email access. However, it was clearly organized, small, and a good basic guide.

Great Refresher!
I bought this as a refresher course for a recent trip we made to Cancun. I took Spanish in high school but needed some reminding. It was a little smaller than I expected, but gave a lot of useful phrases. As other reviewers have stated the phrases are a little on the old-fashioned side. But the sections on Food (ordering, etc.) and medical (hospital, pharmacy etc.) were very all inclusive. A great guide.

Great phrase book
I found this book to be a simple and basic introduction to Spanish words, pronunciation, and everyday phrases. The book is basic and userfriendly. However, it does not perform miracles - my Spanish phrases are still fragmentary at best.

501 Spanish Verbs: Fully Conjugated in All the Tenses in A New Easy-To-Learn Format Alphabetically Arranged

Customer Review:

Simply put, a must have for learning the language
Whether you are just beginning or have been immersed in the language for some time, this book proves to be an essential tool for better grasping the Spanish language.

It's verb conjugation tables are excellent and very easily laid out. Additionaly, there are comprehensive explanations of the verb structure of Spanish that for me ended up being just as valuabe as the 501 verbs themselves. When my professor for an immersion program in Mexico had a difficult time explaining the meaning of various verb tenses, this book became invaluable to grasping the idiosyncricies of the grammar.

Complete with a number of useful and well-explained verb exercises and creative tools for learning the language, the book will help you to gain a much greater understanding of the "verbage" of Spanish.

I highly recommend this book to anyone serious about learning the Spanish language.

Best book you can own on Spanish
Quite simply there is no better book out there for the Spanish student. It gives the full conjugations for 501 verbs. It is so easy to use because of its simple but common sense approach. If you know of someone studying Spanish get this book for them. If you are going to start studying it get this book along with a dictionary and Pimsleur Spanish, your success will be guaranteed.

Essential for new Spanish speakers
I bought this book when I first started learning to speak Spanish in the early 1990s, and over the years it has been a tremendously useful reference.

Although every verb in the Spanish language cannot possibly be included small reference such as this, there are enough examples of common irregular verbs to cover the conjugation scenarios. In addition, the 501 verbs selected go a long way in terms of the vocabulary of day-to-day reading, writing, and speaking. The layout of each page is the same throughout the book, so you know exactly where to look for the conjugation of a specific tense. In addition, editors have made good use of white space so the content is easy on the eyes.

I strongly recommend this book as a reference guide to anyone who is learning Spanish, whether you're in school or trying to pick up the language on your own.

The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two (Revised and Updated Edition)

In their excellent (and hefty) resource guide, The Baby Book, attachment parenting specialists William Sears and Martha Sears have provided new parents with their approach to every aspect of baby care basics, from newborns to toddlers. Attachment parenting is a gentle, reasonable approach to parenting that stresses bonding with your baby, responding to her cues, breastfeeding, "wearing" your baby, and sharing sleep with your child. For those parents who worry about negative effects of this attention, the Sears say, "Spoiling is what happens when you leave something (or some person) alone on the shelf--it spoils."

Customer Review:

The BEST parenting book ever written
This book is an essential if you have children. It is my standard baby shower gift and is so worn that I might need a new copy when my next baby comes along. Written by medical professionals with 8 kids...who could ask for more expertise?!?

Best baby book I've found
This book is great. Dr. Sears is knowledgeable and intelligent. I love this book and consult it all the time. It is well-written and easy to read. It also covers just about everything you want to read about. I got it as a gift from a friend (also a mom) who told me she consulted it daily. I thought that was an exaggeration, but it is truly a great resource. I recommend it highly if you have or are expecting a baby!

great book
I highly recommend this book. I'm sure I will be referencing it a lot over the next two years

Too Big for Diapers (Too Big Board Books)

Customer Review:

Good choice
This book is appropriate for my 2 year old. The sentences are short enough to keep his attention as we turn pages, and the message is good.

Too Big for Diapers was a good support book for potty training!
This book kept my 2 year old interested in potty training. She enjoyed the book for about a week - now she is a BIG GIRL!

Nicely done
Our daughter loves Ernie and this book gave her a chance to see how Ernie gets used to using the potty and not wearing diapers anymore. The words on each page are short and simple, the pictures are very appropriate for youngsters who can relate to the different activities they encounter each day and how they can signal a grown up that they need to use the bathroom. The steps are so matter of fact that it makes potty training seem as simple as 1-2-3!

I like that this is a sturdy board book so it withstands daily reading for both our kids. Very well worth the price.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)

The long-awaited, eagerly anticipated, arguably over-hyped Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has arrived, and the question on the minds of kids, adults, fans, and skeptics alike is, "Is it worth the hype?" The answer, luckily, is simple: yep. A magnificent spectacle more than worth the price of admission, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will blow you away. However, given that so much has gone into protecting the secrets of the book (including armored trucks and injunctions), don't expect any spoilers in this review. It's much more fun not knowing what's coming--and in the case of Rowling's delicious sixth book, you don't want to know. Just sit tight, despite the earth-shattering revelations that will have your head in your hands as you hope the words will rearrange themselves into a different story. But take one warning to heart: do not open Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince until you have first found a secluded spot, safe from curious eyes, where you can tuck in for a good long read. Because once you start, you won't stop until you reach the very last page.
A darker book than any in the series thus far with a level of sophistication belying its genre, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince moves the series into murkier waters and marks the arrival of Rowling onto the adult literary scene. While she has long been praised for her cleverness and wit, the strength of Book 6 lies in her subtle development of key characters, as well as her carefully nuanced depiction of a community at war. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, no one and nothing is safe, including preconceived notions of good and evil and of right and wrong. With each book in her increasingly remarkable series, fans have nervously watched J.K. Rowling raise the stakes; gone are the simple delights of butterbeer and enchanted candy, and days when the worst ailment could be cured by a bite of chocolate. A series that began as a colorful lark full of magic and discovery has become a dark and deadly war zone. But this should not come as a shock to loyal readers. Rowling readied fans with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by killing off popular characters and engaging the young students in battle. Still, there is an unexpected bleakness from the start of Book 6 that casts a mean shadow over Quidditch games, silly flirtations, and mountains of homework. Ready or not, the tremendous ending of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will leave stunned fans wondering what great and terrible events await in Book 7 if this sinister darkness is meant to light the way. --Daphne Durham
A Few Words from J.K. Customer Review:

Excellent for people who have little to no financial planning experience
Before buying the book, I watched Suze on PBS and was very impressed. The book is basically the PBS special in print.
However, I had a pretty good idea about a lot of the concepts that Suze covered in her book, so I'd say I only learned new information from about half the book. But, it's a great present for friends or family who are starting out on the path to financial independence, so I would recommend it highly.

    Excellent!
Have briefly watched Suze Orman's TV show several times, and couldn't stand it. This book, however, is outstanding. She has compiled a wealth of information (including various important government loan program details) for those just starting out after college. I wish it had been available for me just after I graduated!

Topics included are an explanation of one's FICO score and what to do about it, strategies upon beginning a job, buying a car, buying a home, retirement funds, and handling student loan repayments.

I think the only thing Suze missed was how to get the MOST reliable new or used car - look in Consumer Reports. (She did, however, encourage getting a used car certified by the manufacturer - excellent advice.)

Am so impressed I'm going to find one of her other books that targets people in my life-stage.

    So far so good
I've currently only listened to 3 of the CDs and I have already learned so much. It may be basic information but a lot of it I didn't know. FICO scores, credit card company tricks and managing your finances are all topics we should be familiar with. It's a good buy.

The Little Red Book of Selling : 12.5 Principles of Sales Greatness

    Customer Review:

    Not your typical sales book
I ran across this book at the localbook store after my eye caught it's bright red cover. Now don't let the cover detract you from the actual content in the book. First off, the style in which Gitomer writes is very casual and he conveys his ideas in a very straightforward almost blunt manner, which I found refreshing.

Most of the content is similiar to ideas encompassed in other sales books: self-confidence, networking, branding, etc.
However, there are some great nuggets in the book that I had never read in other sales books. For example, he talks about how positioning yourself to provide value to a customer will develop into a long lasting relationship with a client. (Ok so that's general but I can't give away all the secrets!)

I particularily liked his networking tips, such as joining Toastmasters or getting involved with your local Chamber of Commerce as a way of exposure and developing relationships.

My only reservation about the book is that at the end of every chapter he promotes his website. While he does mention that branding is an important technique in distinguisihing yourself from the competition, I felt it was a bit excessive and annoying. And I found one of his suggestions a bit dubious (mentioned in one of the other reviews: using your child to leave voice messages), but I think he was being only half serious with that one.

Overall, the book is a very easy read, entertaining, and applicable.

Irritating at times, some good stuff
Some of this stuff isn't practical, like having your kid leave voice mail messages for hard to reach prospects (note to Jeff...it didn't work!).

However, the section about power questions was right on the money. 95 percent of all salespeople ask stupid, pointless questions. Power questions work.

A strong 3 1/2 stars. Not the best I've read, but worth the $$$.

    Life Changing Advice
I'm 80/20'ing all my books, and this is definitely a "keeper".
I found a piece of advice I needed right now, one with the potential to reduce my stress by 80%.
No, I'm not going to tell you the specific advice that worked for me today, you'll have to find a page written just for you. Don't worry, there's lots of wisdom to choose from.

Now, the classic books from the library of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry--Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages--are available in hardcover in a sturdy boxed gift set. (These books are written by J.K. Rowling herself under the pseudonyms Newt Scamander and Kennilworthy Whisp.) Finally, Muggles will have the chance to discover where the Quintaped lives, what the Puffskein eats, and why it is best not to leave milk out for a Knarl. The Quidditch textbook explains where the Golden Snitch came from, how the Bludgers came into existence, and why the Wigtown Wanderers have pictures of meat cleavers on their clothes. Both books, designed to look like Harry Potter's actual, used Hogwarts textbooks, feature silly scribblings from Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Proceeds from the sale of this gift set will go to improving and saving the lives of children around the world. Harry Potter fans, rejoice! (All ages)

    Customer Review:

    Great books!
I loved this book set. These books along with the new ULTIMATE UNOFFICIAL HARRY POTTER BOOK 6 TRIVIA BOOK by author Daniel Lawrence are the best companion books for HP fans. Great fun!!

    Funny!
These books are a great companion to the Harry Potter series. The money goes to a good cause. These books don't go in deep like the HP series but if you're looking for a light, funny, book, I recommend it.

Amusing, and for a good cause
These books are actually very funny, they have not only blatant humor, but are written with a good deal of wit. If, for some reason, you are looking to these books to contain some depth, like the Harry Potter series, they do not. They are merely a humorous product used to raise money for the charity Comic Relief. If you are looking for a good, easy laugh, these are a good buy and for a good cause.
